Do You Pick The Cheap Flight or The Best Airline To Fly On?

Do you take into consideration the Airline Saftey records, labor disputes, and bankruptcies you hear about on the news every day?
If you think about it, the odds of an airline that has just had a crash or mechanical problem, having another one very soon, are probably remote at best (if you play the odds).
But on the other hand, an airline that is having a labor dispute or pay strike, is probably more likely to see your baggage go off in the wrong direction, possibly ruining your vacation in the process!
So how DO you pick a good airline?
What SHOULD you take into consideration?
It would seem to me that there are really only four things that should matter and those would be getting to our destination safely, getting there with our baggage in one piece and together on the same plane, having the most comfortable ride, and getting there as quickly as possible
Sound Reasonable?
So maybe the sensationalism of the media is NOT the best way to judge your best choice of Travel.
Instead, maybe we should research the Airline's Safety and Security performance records at http://www.airline-safety-records.com or http://www.airsafe.com. You can also get a lot of great information about their performance records at http://www.faa.gov/passengers/fly_safe/safety_record
Or how about checking to see what kind (and how many) complaints their customers have made at http://www.nasdac.faa.gov/internet or http://airconsumer.ost.dot.gov or http://www.consumeraffairs.com/travel/travel.htm
You can also check to see if there are any documented problems with your prospective Airline with their Luggage handling at http://www.airsafe.com/complain/complain.htm http://www.smartertravel.com
And last but certainly not least, you should check into their on-time record, to see if they are notoriously or consistently late, at http://www.bts.gov and consistently.
But in the end, no matter WHAT the statistics say, the most important thing is going to almost always come down to ...
How much is this trip going to cost me?
You can only lessen your odds of losing your luggage, getting there on time, or having mechanical problems by doing your research first. So don't get TOO hung up on it.
In the end, just rely on your gut, and how much you can spend.
Remember, no matter WHAT you hear in the media or read online ...
Flying is STILL the safest way to travel!...
